| Here is the story of Flowerdew Hundred, the 1,000-acre plantation Sir George Yeardley, Virginias first royal governor, established on the south side of the James River. The succession of its residents, from colonial times through thenineteenth century, left behind a record of their passing in the form of broken dishes and bottles, animal bones, building foundations, pipe stems, and a wealth of other material.
